Here is the link to the NARs contest information: http://www.nar.org/competition/index.html Below is some of the information about our Winterfest '10 contest. You still should read through the NAR Pink Book for a complete set of rules. Notify Greg Elder if you are going to compete. A Division -- 7-13 years of age B Division -- 14-18 years of age C Division -- 19 years of age and older T Division -- Registered NAR Team Motors used in the contest must be on the NAR contest certified motor list. Your contest rockets must have either your name or NAR number on the exterior surface. For teams, the team name or number must be displayed. Reloadable Motors **Only reload kits that are presented in factory, new, unopened packages may be used. Sealed reload packages will not be required for inspection at the contest. The type of reload kit, the motor case designation, and the letters "RMS" must be recorded on the flight card. Events Random Duration -- The Contest Director will randomly select a duration time between 30 -120 seconds (in multiples of 5 seconds) before the first flight of the contest. Launch a rocket and attempt to achieve the randomly selected duration time. You are allowed one flight in this event. You must fly this event before flying any other duration event. 1/4A Boost Glider Duration -- Launch a boost glider with a 1/4A motor. The model may separate into multiple pieces, only the gliding portion is timed. Any separated part must have a recovery device, e.g., an ejected motor must have a recovery device attached.) Achieve the longest duration. You are allowed two qualified flights. The durations from both flights are added together for a total time. C Streamer Duration -- Launch a rocket with a C motor and using a streamer for recovery. Achieve the longest duration. You are allowed two qualified flights. The streamer must have a length- to-width ratio of five to one (5:1) or greater and have a minimum area of 100 square centimeters. The streamer and model must be connected by only a single line or cord, attached at the narrow end of the streamer. The cord may not be connected to either the streamer or the model at more than one point (e.g., no yokes are permitted). The streamer may not be cut, slit, or otherwise altered in such a manner as to affect its nature as a simple connected plane. The durations from both flights are added together for a total time. D Helicopter Duration -- Launch a rocket with a D motor and using autorotation recovery. Achieve the longest duration. You are allowed two qualified flights. Each entry must be decelerated during descent by its autorotating recovery device. The resulting autorotation must be around the vertical axis. A model that descends nose first, or flips over once during descent is permitted. A model that flips over more than once shall be disqualified. The durations from both flights are added together for a total time. F Super-Roc Altitude -- Launch a Super-Roc with an F motor and achieve the largest score. Your score is the altitude of your rocket in meters times the length of your rocket in centimeters. For F Super-Roc the minimum length of the rocket is 200 centimeters, while the maximum length is 400 centimeters. An entry that comes apart, bends so as to crimp the body, or has a similar structural failure prior to ejection shall be disqualified. Entries with bodies or significant structural parts made from hard or potentially unsafe material (e.g., hardwood doweling or fiberglass shafts) shall not be allowed. You are allowed two qualified flights and the single best flight is used for scoring. |
